Bahamas Philately: Grand Bahama Club (A Jack Tar Hotel)

In 1959, the Grand Bahama Club fell under the new management of the Jack Tar hotel chain. The hotel underwent a $3million renovation and reconstruction program. Air conditioning, tv receivers, and telephones were added to all 320 rooms. A new 18 hole golf course was designed and and built by Mark Mahannah, convention facilities were added as well as a protected yacht basin for yachts 100ft or more. The property expanded to 2,000 acres. It re-opened in February 1960 offering three restaurants, four cocktail lounges, a 7,000 yard golf course, and the largest swimming pool in the Western Hemisphere. The club and hotel was serviced by the Jack Tar International Airport.

By July 1961, the club was trading as Grand Bahama Hotel (A Jack Tar Resort).
