Bahamas Philately: New Providence – Nassau – Potter’s Cay

Potter’s Cay was a small narrow cay on the eastern part of Nassau Harbour on East Bay Street. In the early 1960s, the Government sponsored the Potter Cay Development.

The development was to create a new public dock for Out Island boats and facilities for handling Out Island shipping. Thus, in 1966, the Produce Exchange was established at Potter’s Cay.

Also part of the development was a new 450ft causeway from the foot of Mackey Street extending to Potter’s Cay.

In 1967, Paradise Island Bridge (a 1560 ft long, 70ft high, bridge) was constructed by Resorts International at a cost of $1.5million. The bridge connected Paradise Island to Potter’s Cay.
