In 1949, Bert Malcolm bought a small two cottage accommodation on Harbour Island and named it Pink Sands Lodge. During the year, this was expanded to nineteen visitor’s homes with accommodation for a dozen guests. In 1951 Allen and Remelle Malcolm from Ashland, Kentucky, USA, purchased Pink Sands Lodge from Bert Malcolm and expanded the premises. In 1958, the Pink Sands Lounge opened.
By 1971, Pink Sands expanded and the name was changed to Pink Sands Hotel.
