Separated from the mainland of Eleuthera by a relatively narrow channel, this tiny (3½-mile-long) Island boasts broad beacjes of soft, pink sand washed by Atlantic waves. Despite its size, it has been a haven for tourists as far back as 1797 when the Earl of Dunmore, Governor of the Bahamas at the time, made his summer home there. Today, it has its own air strip and at least five hotels that offer excellent tourist accomodations. Spanish Wells, a neighbouring cay, is the only all-white settlement in the Bahamas.
