Bahamas Philately: Post Office – Freeport

Freeport Post Office (P.O.) was opened 5 January 1959 as a Sub Post Office under West End.

Mail service between the district and Nassau was performed by the mail vessel M.V. Church Bay. Airmail was operated daily by Bahamas Airways Ltd and Mackey Air Lines between Nassau, Miami and the district.

A large modern post office was opened in 1963 and on 1 April 1963 it was upgraded to a District Post Office. Mail was exchanged directly the U.S.A. and Canada from 1966.
