Rawson Square is located in downtown Nassau on Bay Street. It was named after Sir Rawson W. Rawson, Governor of The Bahamas from 1864 to 1869. Governor Rawson was responsible for filling in Crown Dock to allow ships to dock close to the city.
To the north of the square is Prince George Wharf.
In the middle of the square is a bronze bust of Sir Milo Butler, the first Bahamian Governor General in an independent Bahamas. A fountain in the square was named for Sir Stafford Sands, the first Bahamian Minister of Tourism.
To the south of the square is Parliament Square.
Other buildings off the square include the Bernard Sunley Building and the Churchill Building. It was also the location for the local Straw Market.
