Bahamas Philately: The Windsor Inne

In late 1959, two young Americans, Robert ‘Bob’ Twist and Stan Raney, from Mississippi, USA, purchased the Windsor Hotel. They briefly changed the name to Windsor Inn before refurbishing the hotel and re-branding it as The Windsor Inne in 1960. Their intent was to create an atmosphere with the romance of the Bahamas islands and the interesting British Colonial influences and way of life. The hotel rooms were completed remodelled to reflect the new style.

Apart from the newly created Ba Ma supper club, the hotel also contained the dining rooms named Ye Round Table Room and King Arthur’s Room, decorated in oak beams and paneling, pewter, knights and armour. Waiters were dressed in old pages costumes and were wheeled roast beef and Yorkshire puddings on copper carts in additional to steaks, fresh seafood and game birds cooked in topical fruits, wines and herbs and flaming cognacs and liquers. Guests could also visit the open rooftop, decorated with coconut fronds and lit by candle light, for dinner. There was also the Waterfalls Patio filled with tropical vegetation, a waterfall and a pool.

It appears to have finally closed in 1969.
