In 1974 the Xanadu Princess was purchased by Howard Hughes’ Summa Corporation for USD$15 million from D K Ludwig and became the Xanadu Princess Yacht & Tennis Club.
In 1976, after Hughes’ death, the resort was sold by the Summa Corporation to Tulsa businessman Robert B. Sutton and re-branded as the Xanadu Beach hotel.
