Rhodesia Philately: 1971 Birds of Rhodesia

Rhodesia is exceptionally fortunate with its bird life; an estimated 620 species are to be found within its borders. Birds may be seen everywhere, but some species are not found in some areas, depending on climate and altitude. They are particularly abundant in Rhodesia’s many national parks. In contrast to that of many other countries the bird population of Rhodesia is unlikely to diminish; there is little cause for concern about the preservation of birds, and it is pleasing to know that no species is in danger of dying out. Practically every bird in Rhodesia extends its range to the countries to the north and south.

H. E. Jackson of the Rhodesia Ornithological Society and to Peter Ginn, photographer, advised and assisted on producing this issue.

In this series of six stamps it has been possible to depict only a small cross-section of Rhodesia’s better-known birds.
