Rhodesia Philately: 1971 Birds of Rhodesia – 8c Red-eyed Bulbul

Of the three species of “Toppie” found in Southern Africa, this is probably the most handsome, with its red eye ring and the marked contrast between head and breast. It is a bird of the drier areas where it may collect in large numbers at water or food sources. Like all the toppies it is a noisy bird, often mobbing snakes and other predators.
