Of the three species of “Toppie” found in Southern Africa, this is probably the most handsome, with its red eye ring and the marked contrast between head and breast. It is a bird of the drier areas where it may collect in large numbers at water or food sources. Like all the toppies it is a noisy bird, often mobbing snakes and other predators.
