Rhodesia Philately: Stamps and Postal Products (1965-1969)

No independence before majority rule (abbreviated NIBMR) was a policy adopted by the United Kingdom government requiring the implementation of majority rule in a colony, rather than rule by the white colonial minority, before independence could be granted.

Although the UK was prepared to grant formal independence to Southern Rhodesia , white Rhodesians balked at the premise of NIBMR as many felt they had a right to absolute political control, despite their relatively small numbers compared to the black African population.

This policy led to Southern Rhodesia issuing an Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) on 11 November 1965.
