C. E. G. Cumings Ltd was an engineering company located at 3 and 4 Willoughby’s Buildings, Bulawayo.The business was started by engineer (Cpt) Charles Ernest George Cumings (b.1866) who arrived as a Matabeleland pioneer from Britain.
Around 1891, Cumings appears to have held an interest in the Matabele Queens Mine with options granted to the Matabele Queens Company. Eventually he started C.E.G. Cumings Ltd and was a member of the Chamber of Mines since 1923.
Cumings died 18 April 1928 but the business continued to trade, relocating to 18 Gifford House, Main Street, Bulawayo by the mid-1930s.
