StampCat Stamps: Iceland Stamps – Fish, Fire, and an Evil Cat?

Join StampCat as I explore more of my stamp collection through stamps of Iceland! Now, sadly, a “dead country” in the world of philately.

Here she learned about the era of Iceland’s Herring Adventure and the town of Siglufjörður – ‘Herring famous’ for it’s factories and herring girls in it’s heyday (herring-day.) Next, the ‘Island of Fire’ Surtsey , which erupted in 1963 to form a new volcanic Island. Named for the Norse legend: Surtr , the fire giant.

Lastly, though it wasn’t relevant to my stamp (but was relevant to Christmas in Iceland)- the Yule Lads and their mean Yule Cat out to eat kids who don’t get socks for Christmas.
