Bahamas Philately: Holiday Inn (Freeport)

The Holiday Inn in Freeport was opened in the winter of 1965. Originally planned for 500 rooms, it opened with 614 and was the largest hotel in the Holiday Inn hotel chain with 14,000ft of beach for its guests. Landscaping of the grounds included the planting 1,100 trees and shrubs and more than 20,000 smaller plants.

“Leisure time is fun time at this special Holiday Inn. You’ll lounge about in handsomely appointed lobbies reflecting the mood and manner of British Bahamas. You’ll browse in smart shops offering fine apparel, gifts and art objects from many a foreign land. You’ll meander about the island, stopping, perchance, at a Bahamian straw market. And a sightseeing trip aboard a double-decker London bus is a must!

By night, this special Holiday Inn takes on an inviting glow – inspired by a blend of tropical moon and soft candlelight. Dine sumptuously in the elegant Emerald Room, dine informally in the colorful Troubadour Room. Dance to the Calypso beat of native drums, dance to rhythmic Latin and American music. Be entertained in the Marine Lounge or make your own after-hours fun around the piano bar. When the candles dim (and only then), retire to your guest room at this special Holiday Inn. What a delightful special place!”
